Weeping Walls
Opens Wednesday 27th June
Weeping Walls are for contemplation. They can absorb our greatest anxieties. Even though they are themselves man made, weeping walls can deflect and withstand the worst of human follies, the greatest of insult laid down upon the earth. Unfortunately, many weeping walls are required in the year 2007, large and small, to match the myriad of transgressions brought about by individuals and institutions. The more than seventy weeping walls in this exhibition represent my anxieties: from the current melting of the polar ice caps to the never to be forgotten swagger of Nazi Officers; for those profiting and others suffering from substance abuse; to children who from the youngest age know too much; for the extinction (forever is forever) of whole animal species; to the attempted dominance of the land, and the political landscape, by wholly righteous people; and to the weapons manufacturers and traders who give power to their arms, shamelessly capitalising on these ambitions. And of course, beyond many weeping walls, lies hope, naturally resplendent. Perhaps within these works, or through your own vision of a weeping wall, you may find a place of solace, of uneasy resolve, perhaps even, the strength of some restorative action.
all works are of mixed media including acrylic & oil paint, pastel & charcoal
