In 1986 Roger Crawford, with three other artists, initiated the artist run gallery First Draft, which they directed for two years and which was an important contribution to the Sydney art scene. Roger Crawford has been exhibiting very actively since 1973 and has attracted critical attention, especially for his work in 1989 Australian Perspecta at the Art Gallery of New South Wales. His work is in the Australian National Gallery and other collections.

Roger Crawford has been teaching at the National Art School, Sydney, since 1985.
